G3VXJ is an amateur radio station run by Bob Rylatt in Worthing, West Sussex, U.K. and can be reached by email at:-

vxj'at'exjay.fsnet.co.uk - (please replace the 'at' with the sign @ - I have made this change to avoid receiving SPAM !!)

.....OR ON THE AIR - HF CW/SSB !!!

Here I am operating the station at G3VXJ in about 1999 - however the set up is continuously being improved and is shown below as it is in 2007:

The Station at G3VXJ now features :

·        An FT2000 transceiver which is still preferred because of its unique feature of twin receive through separate IF strips. This allows listening to CW DX through a narrow DSP filter whilst switching in a wider channel to track calling stations on the second receive channel at the same time.

·        A Hercules linear which can run QSK at the full UK power limit of 400 watts.

·        A Sony Vaio computer which connects to DX clusters on the web to monitor activity, and is used to operate other modes such as SSTV, RTTY, PSK etc using WinMix software and the RigMaster interface you can see under the FT2000. The computer is also used for logging and to run contest software such as CT and also some station logs (although I am a tradionalist and still keep a paper log book!).

·        A Heil HC4 Pro headset - the FT2000 provides digital voice recording for transmit and receive.

·        A Bencher Hex magnetic paddle - I have many top class paddles (Begali, March, WBL etc), this one was given to me on the occasion of my retirement. Again the FT2000 provides a memory keyer also when required.

·        Sundry extras – a radio controlled station clock, a beam rotator and a Dentron AT1K antenna tuner + switch.

·        The ‘brag board’ including DXCC 5 Band, CW Honor Roll and the DXCC Challenge awards.

However in April 2005 my big news was receiving QSL confirmation from VU4RBI for a contact with the Andaman Islands - my last of the 335 countries to reach the top of the DXCC Honor Roll !!

I received my plaque and pin recognising this achievement (which took me 24 years!) at the ARRL HQ station W1AW in Newington Connecticut as shown in the photos below:
